The Coordinator and Partners of the ERASMUS + Project “European Researcher Development and Engagement for Interculturality and Equity” (EUREDIE) are pleased to announce The International Congress on Interculturality and Equity in Language Education (EUREDIE Congress- 2023) to be held on November 23-24, 2023, by the coordinating institution Istanbul University- Cerrahpaşa, in Istanbul. The congress intends to bring together scholars, academics, researchers and pre-service and in-service language teachers engaged with interculturality and diversity in language education and offer a platform for both theoretical discussions and presentation of perspectives in practice and research. The two-day event will comprise three plenary sessions, a colloquium on the results and outputs of the EUREDIE Project, concurrent sessions for paper presentations and a panel discussion. 

The invited plenary speakers are:

  • Prof. Adrian Holliday, Canterbury Christ Church University
  • Prof. Christiane Lütge, Ludwig-Maximilians University, Munich
  • Prof. Maria Manuela Guilherme, Centre for Social Studies, University of Coimbra

Drawing from the objectives of the EUREDIE Project, The International Congress on Interculturality and Equity in Language Education aims at perceiving interculturality in all its potential in the field of language education and building capacity for diversity-inclusive and equitable education in terms of pedagogical practices and language education research. Abstract submissions for the paper presentations may include but are not limited to the following subtopics:

  • Culture(s) in the language classroom 
  • Linguistic and cultural diversity in the language classroom
  • Critical language awareness
  • Interculturality-responsive research in language education
  • Inter/Transcultural communication
  • Intercultural learning
  • Culturally responsive teaching
  • Intercultural citizenship education
  • Teaching for equity and inclusion in the multilingual and multicultural classroom

The allocated time for each paper presentation will be 30 minutes, including a 10-minute-long Q & A.  All sessions will be face-to-face and registration and participation in the Congress is free-of-charge. Important Dates:

  • Deadline for abstract submission: July 17th, 2023
  • Deadline for second call for abstract submission: August 10th, 2023
  • Notification for acceptance: August 28th, 2023
